Tho you can pick up plenty of new weapons as you go along. just be aware that when you do all your skills go to zero, so any spells you had are all gone and you have to relearn them. way later in the game there is an NPC who will let you reset your skills, attributes, and talents.
The classes basically will give you what weapons you first start the game with. your stats will be mostly the same so you really only lose the skill points you have put into whatever else. Geomancer skills tend to deal Poison Damage and Earth Damage, and cause Acid and Poison statuses.
